“I’m More Aware of the Implications”: Marisa Abela Speaks Out About Asking “Industry” Directors to Tone Down Sex Scenes.Linh

If you’re a fan of HBO’s hit drama Industry, then you already know that the show has really gone there in the past when it comes to sex scenes.

You might’ve also noticed that the show’s third season, which just ended last week, was a little more tame in the nudity department — and, when it comes to one of the show’s stars, that certainly was no coincidence.

In a recent interview with the Times of London, Marisa Abela — who had a star turn as Yasmin Kara-Hanani in Season 3 of Industry — explained that she explicitly asked the show’s directors to tone down the sex scenes this time around.

“I don’t necessarily push back on the sex,” she explained. “I understand that it’s part of the show. I think I’m just more careful now about what it is that’s being seen.”

“The nudity aspect is not something that I minded in season one or two — it was like, ‘If it’s in my contract, I’ll do it.’ It was part of Yasmin and part of the fact that she was so comfortable with herself and she’s very free. And it didn’t have a lot of emotional weight for me.”

“It’s not like anyone would have made me do something that I didn’t want to do, but I didn’t necessarily want to question the directors,” she continued. “But I think now I’m more aware of the implications of doing it over and over again.”

According to Marisa, being more aware of the implications means requesting how much she’ll show — and not show — onscreen.

“I’m more aware that I have the ability to say, ‘Do you mind staying on my back rather than coming round the front? You get the idea from my back that I’m not wearing anything.’”
