It’s Almost Unbelievable to Witness Baboons Adopting and Grooming Cubs.

October 28, 2023 by Cong Danh

A video showing a baboon caring lion baby perched on top of a tree in Sᴏᴜᴛʜ Aғʀɪᴄᴀ’s Kruger National Park has received a lot of attention. The adult baboon can be seen in the video resting on a marula tree. As the sun filters through the leaves, it turns to face the camera and is cradling a lion cub that is weakly and obviously in agony.

The video’s caption described that a male baboon stole a lion baby and began grooming it while it was still alive and healthy. While some people are pleased to see this interspecies friendship, others believe the lion cub may not last long in the branches.

People have even said that since the baboon cannot teach the lion cub how to ʜᴜɴᴛ, the cub would probably starve to ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ. Carnivorous baboons are known to go on the ʜᴜɴᴛ. Some people even worry that the baboon may ᴍᴜʀᴅᴇʀ and devour the cub.

A user says that the lion baby will eventually need milk, and he doubts the baboon will be able to provide it. A comment says that who knows what will happen here considering that baboons have been known to capture young stray dogs, raise them to adulthood, and then keep them as pets.

Let’s take a look at this amazing sight in the video below:
