Jennifer Lawrence is using her platform to shed light on the plight of women in Afghanistan through Bread and Roses, a documentary she co-produced with Malala Yousafzai. The film, premiering on Apple TV+ on November 22, explores the impact of the Taliban’s return to power on women’s rights and follows three women fighting for autonomy. Lawrence, who is expecting her second child, revealed on CBS Mornings that her loved ones discouraged her involvement due to potential dangers.

“My family and friends encouraged me not to,” said the No Hard Feelings actress, acknowledging the risks involved. “But there are 20 million women whose lives are in danger.” Despite criticism about her educational background, Lawrence emphasized, “This is not political—it’s people’s lives,” urging public action to hold governments accountable and recognize gender apartheid.

Lawrence collaborated with director Sahra Mani and Yousafzai to bring the film to life, aiming to amplify the voices of Afghan women. The project has drawn attention to the ongoing human rights crisis, with Lawrence calling for greater awareness and advocacy. Meanwhile, the actress continues balancing her activism and personal life, recently announcing her pregnancy with husband Cooke Maroney.

Bread and Roses premieres on Apple TV+ on November 22, adding to Lawrence’s growing efforts to highlight critical global issues through storytelling.
