Muni Long Reflects on Fifth Harmony’s ‘Worth It’ 10 Years Later: ‘A Mix of Three Different Songs’ (Exclusive)

March marks the 10-year anniversary of Fifth Harmony’s hit song “Worth It,” and songwriter Muni Long is shedding light on how the track came together in an unexpected way.

Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE while promoting her new single “Slow Grind,” the two-time Grammy winner, 36, revealed that “Worth It” was a unique blend of multiple songs.

“I wrote that song in the studio by myself,” Long said, explaining that the final version evolved significantly from her original composition. “Then Stargate took it and kind of reproduced it. They took the hook off of the song I wrote, a verse from another song I had written, and the Kid Ink verse from a song he had done with them. They basically engineered this song—it was like three different songs put together.”

Fifth Harmony released “Worth It” on March 2, 2015. Long, credited under her birth name Priscilla Renea, discovered its release in an unexpected way. “By the time I found out it was out, it was already No. 10 on iTunes. I got a text saying, ‘Congratulations!’ and I was like, ‘For what?'” she recalled with a laugh.

The song went on to peak at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has since amassed over 2.3 billion views on YouTube.

Despite the surprising circumstances surrounding its release, Long maintains a positive perspective. “I’m not complaining! It is what it is,” she said. “What I’m trying to do is give others some insight that this happens—even to the best of us. So if it happened to me, it can happen to you too, sweetie.”

At the time of “Worth It,” Fifth Harmony consisted of Ally Brooke, Normani, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui, and Camila Cabello.

Since then, Long has continued to make waves in the music industry, winning Grammys for Best R&B Performance in 2023 with “Hrs & Hrs” and again in 2025 with “Made for Me (Live on BET).” Following her latest Grammy win, she made a bold statement during her acceptance speech: “Please stop calling me Priscilla—it’s Muni Long now.”

Looking ahead, Long is preparing for her debut performance at Coachella in April, marking another milestone in her flourishing career.
