Red Sox Keep Rolling with Convincing 9–3 Win Over Rockies at Fenway

Boston, MA – July 7, 2025

The Boston Red Sox continued their summer surge Monday night with a dominant 9–3 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Fenway Park, extending their winning streak to four games and keeping momentum high as the second half of the season looms.

In front of a packed house in Boston, the Red Sox delivered a complete performance — solid pitching, timely hitting, and energetic defense — reminding fans and opponents alike that this team is not to be taken lightly in the AL playoff race.

Offense Comes Alive Early and Often

Boston wasted no time getting on the board. In the bottom of the first, leadoff hitter Jarren Duran reached on a sharp single to center, and two batters later, Rafael Devers crushed a two-run home run into the right-field bleachers, giving the Red Sox a 2–0 lead and setting the tone for the evening.

From there, the offense kept piling on.

In the third, the Sox tacked on three more runs, capitalizing on a pair of Rockies errors and RBI singles from Masataka Yoshida and Connor Wong. By the end of the fourth inning, Boston had already built a 6–1 cushion, forcing Rockies starter Kyle Freeland out of the game after just 3.2 innings pitched.

“Guys are seeing the ball well and doing damage early,” said manager Alex Cora after the game. “That takes a lot of pressure off the pitching staff and allows us to manage the game better.”

A Confident Nick Pivetta Shines on the Mound

On the mound, right-hander Nick Pivetta delivered another strong performance, allowing just two earned runs over six innings while striking out eight. The Rockies struggled to time his fastball-slider mix, and outside of a solo homer by Ezequiel Tovar in the fifth, Colorado had few answers.

“I felt really in sync tonight,” said Pivetta. “The defense behind me was great, and once we got that early lead, I just focused on attacking the zone and keeping the tempo up.”

Pivetta improved to 7–4 on the season and has quietly put together a strong month of July, boasting a 2.63 ERA over his last three starts.

Relievers Justin Slaten, Joely Rodríguez, and Chris Martin each worked a scoreless inning to close out the game, holding Colorado to just six total hits on the night.

Rockies Continue to Struggle on the Road

For the Rockies, it was another frustrating chapter in what has been a challenging season, particularly away from Coors Field. With Monday’s loss, Colorado falls to 2–8 on their current road trip and sits at the bottom of the NL West standings.

“We’re just not executing,” Rockies manager Bud Black admitted. “You can’t give teams like Boston extra outs and expect to come out on top.”

Colorado’s bullpen, already taxed after a weekend series in Milwaukee, struggled to contain the Red Sox bats. Right-hander Peter Lambert allowed three runs in two innings of work, including a bases-clearing double by Wilyer Abreu in the seventh that pushed Boston’s lead to 9–2.

Brenton Doyle added a solo home run in the top of the ninth to trim the margin slightly, but by then, the outcome was no longer in doubt.

Fenway Buzzing as Sox Climb Standings

The victory improves Boston’s record to 50–39, keeping them within striking distance of the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles in the AL East standings. With the All-Star break less than a week away, the Red Sox are making a strong case for postseason contention — a notion that seemed far from guaranteed back in April.

“We’ve got something special going here,” said Red Sox shortstop Ceddanne Rafaela. “Everyone’s playing hard, pulling for each other, and believing we can win every night. That energy is contagious.”

Fans at Fenway seemed to agree, erupting into chants of “Let’s go Red Sox!” during the late innings, many still in their seats well after the final out.

What’s Next

The Red Sox and Rockies will face off again Tuesday night in Game 2 of the three-game set. Brayan Bello (6–5, 4.12 ERA) is expected to take the mound for Boston, while Colorado will counter with right-hander Ryan Feltner (2–7, 5.89 ERA).

Boston will look to maintain its offensive rhythm and keep stacking wins as the trade deadline approaches. With team president Chaim Bloom reportedly exploring bullpen upgrades, continued strong performances could convince the front office to be aggressive buyers in late July.

As for the Rockies, the focus remains on development and evaluation, with young talents like Tovar, Doyle, and outfielder Jordan Beck getting valuable reps at the big-league level.
