Brian Geraghty on Working with Harrison Ford in 1923: “He Makes Me Laugh”
Brian Geraghty is the latest 1923 cast member to praise Harrison Ford, describing him as both a dedicated actor and a fun presence on set.
Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE at the season 2 premiere of the Yellowstone spinoff, Geraghty, 49, reflected on his experience playing Zane Davis, the loyal foreman to Ford’s Jacob Dutton.
“I love Harrison,” Geraghty shared. “He’s a funny guy, and he wants to be there. He loves it. He takes it really seriously. He’s there for us as actors.”
Despite Ford’s legendary status, Geraghty admitted that working alongside him was initially nerve-wracking. “The first day I thought I was going to die,” he joked. “I was so nervous because whenever you have the opportunity to work with somebody like that—actors that are bigger than life—you’ve got to move through the nerves.”
Geraghty credited Helen Mirren, who plays matriarch Cara Dutton, with helping him feel comfortable on set. Mirren, 79, previously told PEOPLE that Ford, 82, naturally commands attention.
“Harrison is such a bloke,” Mirren said. “All the other blokes absolutely love him, and quite rightfully. He’s always so lovely to all the other actors. We all sit in the freezing cold on set on funky little uncomfortable chairs, and the other guys just gather around Harrison because they just want to be in his company.”
When asked if he ever talks to Ford about his past iconic roles, Geraghty admitted he generally avoids the subject. “If it’s an earnest question and we’re having a good time, then maybe,” he said. “But I even get annoyed if somebody knows me from something I did 10 years ago—I’m trying to do other things.”
He added, “I try to stay away from all the iconic roles and just talk about things that are relevant. Acting is all about trust, and once you start bringing up the past, it can feel like prying.”
Ultimately, Geraghty cherished his time working with Ford. “I was lucky because almost 80% of my time is with him, and he makes me laugh,” he said.
Season 2 of 1923 is now streaming on Paramount+.
