The New York Jets stink in more ways than one that is the harsh verdict of Sky Sports duo Neil Reynolds and Jeff Reinebold.
On Sunday, New Yorks 2024-25 campaign hit another lowpoint after the Jets suffered a last-minute 28-27 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, thereby dropping them to a meagre 3-8 on the season. Discussing the disheartening defeat, Reynolds and Reinebold placed much of the blame on the shoulders of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, whose tenure in the Big Apple has hardly gone according to plan.

Here we are now with the Aaron Rodgers experiment. Theyre getting a good look at him. In the period since they signed Aaron Rodgers, hes torn his Achilles and missed the season. They fired their head coach and theyre now 3-8.
Since returning from his Achilles tear after missing all but four snaps last season, Rodgers has looked like a shell of his former self. Over 11 games this year, the 40-year-old has completed 241-of-380 passes for 2,442 yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions while failing to eclipse over 300 passing in a single contest.
With their season spiralling out of control, the Jets top brass made several rash decisions in recent weeks. New York parted ways with head coach Robert Saleh following a loss to the Minnesota Vikings last month, acquired Rodgers longtime favorite target wideout Davante Adams in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, and stripped play-calling duties away from offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.
According to Reinebold, none of these changes seemed to help right the ship. Theres a stench around that team, he declared. Changing the head coach didnt change. Now Aaron Rodgers says he wants to come back for another year. Is that what you really want if youre a Jets fan?

Though Rodgers has publicly expressed a desire to play in the NFL next season, Reynolds questioned if the Jets are really willing to welcome him back with open arms. Well, yes, thats a decision theyve got to make, especially if theyre picking high in the draft, he replied.
They may be tempted by a young quarterback. Rodgers is not going to mentor that quarterback. He would be on his own to learn, even if Rodgers stuck around. So, yes, not good for the Jets.
Should New York decide to select a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, Athlon Sports Nick Faria also speculated that the Jets could turn to their crosstown rivals quarterback as a more immediate replacement for Rodgers. Just a thought, but what if the Jets move on from [Aaron] Rodgers this offseason, drafted a QB in Rd 1, and signed Daniel Jones to a bridge deal? NY fans might have their heads explode but its an interesting hypothetical if the Jets keep losing as well, Faria said.
Ahead of the Giants Week 12 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jones was benched in favor of backup-signal caller Tommy DeVito. Though the 27-year-old still has two years left on his $160 million contract, New York would only amass a $22 million cap hit from cutting him this offseason.
