Erik and Lyle Menendez might be getting out of prison before Christmas, but they’ll still be spending Halloween behind bars.

The brothers were sentenced to life without parole in 1996 after murdering their parents Jose and Kitty Menendez. They maintain that they did so out of fear that their parents would kill them because they wanted to speak up about the abuse Erik suffered from their father.

While they have an upcoming court hearing about a possible resentencing, this might be their last Halloween in the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, California. And they have plans for the big holiday.

A prison source in the California Department of Corrections told TMZ that Erik, Lyle, and their cellmates are set to watch the 1990 version of Stephen King’s It starring Tim Curry for the prison’s movie night. They’re also allegedly making “candy salad,” all different types of candy from the commissary in one big bowl.

Besides candy, the inmates will treat themselves to snacks like chips, cookies, popcorn, and more. Prisoners also make their own DIY taffy which is made by mixing creamer and Kool-Aid together.

As a possible celebration of their last Halloween behind bars, the brothers allegedly draped a clean bedsheet over the table as a fancy tablecloth to host their snack spread.

The brothers could possibly be out of prison by December 11, as their lawyers are set to be in court that day where the brothers could get a immediately released. Earlier this month, the District Attorney of Los Angeles, George Gascón, held a press conference where he shared that he would recommend to the court that the brothers be resentenced – which would let them out on parole immediately.

“I do believe the brother was subjected to a tremendous amount of dysfunction in the home and molestation,” Gascón said. He spoke highly of the brothers’ time in prison so far and insisted that they “paid their dues” to society.

About the district attorney’s recommendation, Anna Maria Baralt, the brothers’ cousin, took to the podium and thanks Gascón for his decision. “The DA’s decision reflects a truth that has been hidden for so long and I am so grateful for his leadership in making this choice,” she said.

“We stand united in our hope and gratitude,” she continued, “Together we can make sure that Erik and Lyle receive the justice they deserve and finally come home.”
