MLB Shockwaves: Red Sox Reportedly Eyeing Blockbuster Trade Sending Jarren Duran to Twins for Starter Sporting a Stellar 2.75 ERA — Is Boston Willing to Gamble Its Future for Pitching Greatness?.nh1

The Boston Red Sox are within striking distance of a wild card spot and could be getting Alex Bregman back as soon as next week. They could salvage what has been a disappointing season so far.

The Red Sox will need to address their starting rotation if they want to make a postseason push. They could use their surplus of outfielders to add a starting pitcher to pair with Garrett Crochet. FanSided’s Cameron Cortigiano suggested the Red Sox trade Jarren Duran to the Minnesota Twins for Joe Ryan.

“Outside of ace Garrett Crochet, Boston has not had much production from their starting pitchers, with just two other arms with more than 60 innings at the halfway point in the season,” wrote Cortigiano. “Finding a way to shore up the rotation should be a priority for Breslow before the trade deadline. Getting Joe Ryan back for Duran could be a great deal for the Red Sox.”

Ryan has a 2.75 ERA through 17 games. He would be a great addition to a needy Red Sox team. The Red Sox’s starters have produced a 4.24 ERA, which is the eighth-worst in baseball. Garrett Crochet has been the lone bright spot, but Lucas Giolito is pitching better as of late. Adding Ryan could help the Red Sox make the postseason.

Duran was an All-Star last season, but his name is the headline of many trade rumors. His numbers have declined, but he is still a good player. The Red Sox have Duran, Roman Anthony, Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu in the outfield. All four can be everyday players, and the Red Sox are eventually going to have to move on from someone.

Anthony is not going to get traded as he’s the top prospect in baseball. Rafaela has already signed an extension. That leaves Abreu and Duran, and the former is younger, has a Gold Glove Award and has more club control.
